Standard Chartered Lands Paul Skelton from HSBC

HSBC’s loss is Standard Chartered’s gain, after it managed to secure veteran banker Paul Skelton in its latest hire, installing him as its newest Global Head of Banking, according to a recent Reuters report.

Mr. Skelton will be joining Standard Chartered in December to man its Singapore operations – in this capacity he will be reporting to Simon Cooper, Standard Chartered’s CEO for Corporate and Institutional Banking and former HSBC departure. The move helps shore up the group’s Singapore unit at a time when many other banks are opting to move top-tier talent to the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region.

Newly Created Role

The newly created role will see Mr. Skelton assume a mandate to oversee all of Standard Chartered’s global relationships with both corporate and financial institution clients. He joins the lender from HSBC, having worked as its Head of Commercial Banking – APAC since 2015.
