BNY Mellon Elevates John Weir, Heading its Application Platform Group

Global investment group and asset managing leader, BNY Mellon, has appointed John Weir as the head of its freshly launched Application Platform and Services Group (APSG), a diverse unit of the company’s Client Technology Solutions organization, according to a BNY statement.

In his new role Mr. Weir will focus on the enabling and development of technologies in a bid to help augment the productivity of application developers, namely the company’s new NEXEN digital platform.

NEXEN functions as BNY Mellon’s latest ambition and next generation digital ecosystem that is presently being offered to clients. The new platform also was designed to help consolidate business and functional services across the BNY Mellon spectrum, thereby assimilating third parties and clients onto one cohesive platform for clients.

Mr. Weir has previously been the Managing Director of BNY Mellon’s Application Platform and Services Group since back in September 2015, when he joined the group. Prior to joining the asset manager, he worked in a variety of senior level roles at Goldman Sachs, including stints as its Managing Director, Global head of Middleware Engineering, Managing Director and CTO, Operations Technology, Technology Fellow, and Executive Director, dating back to 1997, according to information made public on his Linkedin profile.

According to Suresh Kumar, Executive Vice President (EVP) and Chief Information Officer (CIO) at BNY Mellon, in a recent statement on the appointment: “As we continue to roll out functionality of our new NEXEN digital ecosystem, it is increasingly important that we leverage common services, which are the building blocks of the new client and business solutions we create.”

“With John’s experience and leadership, this new group in our technology organization will focus on delivering consistent, reliable and resilient solutions faster and more effectively, for both our clients and our company.”

Earlier this month, BNY Mellon also made another senior appointment, . Mr. Murray will step into his new role in June, and will be based out BNY Mellon’s New York office, where he will report to Michelle Neal, the President of BNY Mellon Markets.
