Blockchain-based payments firm Ripple has discharged its chief marketing strategist Cory Johnson from his position.
According to the statement of a Ripple spokesperson, the company has scrapped the position given the market conditions.
“Cory’s last year at Ripple was a success in representing the company to investors, press, and regulators. Cory helped Ripple with strategy internally and overall industry education. But due to changes in market conditions, we’ve chosen to eliminate the role of Chief Market Strategist,” Tom Channick, a Ripple spokesperson, told Coindesk.
Ripple’s Face for Media
Johnson joined Ripple in early 2018 and as explained by him earlier, his role at the firm would be “to try and explain, listen and set strategies to make it easy for Wall Street and the world of finance to understand what we’re doing.”
He soon became the poster boy for the company and served as a key spokesperson for Ripple in all media platforms.
Johnson is a seasoned investor, entrepreneur, and also a journalist. Prior to joining Ripple, he served Bloomberg for 8 years as an editor-at-large. For years, he also worked as an analyst at Forensic Research Group, Kingsford Capital Management, and Cannell Capital.
According to his Linkedin profile, Johnson was the founding editor-in-chief at Slam Magazine and later worked as the editor-at-large for the Street and the Industry Standard before moving to CNBC as a Silicon Vally Correspondent.
Last December, Ripple added to its team as general counsel to oversee all legal services and manage the company’s global legal, policy, and Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) compliance teams.
