The report also looked into why app developers devote more resources to its iOS offerings. It boiled down to one simple answer. iOS users spend more as opposed to Android users. It begins with the hardware and extends to the software.  When looking at device price points, a high-spec budget Android powered tablet can be had for under $200 while Apples least expansive offering is twice as much at $400.  Given that Apple does not allow third party applications from unknown source s to be installed on its devices also locks in users to its monetized ecosystem.

It’s not just in social and online gaming, a staggering 87% of mobile visits in 2013 originated from iPads and iPhones, while Android devices accounting for merely 11%. Shopping cart amounts also favored iDevices with an average of $155 per cart as opposed to $110 on Android devices.
