Coinbase has announced its second Bitcoin Hackathon, offering $70,000 worth of prizes for the best Bitcoin applications.
The prizes will be awarded in bitcoins and range in value from $500 to $10,000. In addition, the top five contestants, as determined by leading Bitcoin investors and experts, will be eligible for a stint with Boost VC. This includes seed funding, mentorship, housing and more, and is valued at $50,000.
The entries will be judged by Coinbase subject matter experts, along with guest judges Adam Draper (BoostVC), Chris Dixon (Andreessen Horowitz), Fred Wilson (Union Square Ventures) and Gavin Andresen (Chief Scientist, Bitcoin Foundation).
Applications should take the form of “new use cases for Bitcoin,” and will be evaluated based on how much it makes Bitcoin easier to use for wider audiences. Applications can either involve Bitcoin directly or make use of its technology to improve user experiences. Coinbase is making available its API, among other tools, to assist development.
Anyone with an internet connection is eligible. Entries will be accepted until May 19.
