Another physical abode for digital currency has opened its doors, this time in Houston, Texas.
The y will be home to the “Texas Coinitiative”, a nonprofit organization promoting Bitcoin in the state. Indeed, the embassy’s site’s branding and URL are themed around the organization.
The embassy offers similar amenities as several other such hubs already in operation, including a co-working space for startups. Hosted on the premises are the Houston Bitcoin meetup, an Ethereum meetup and occasional speakers.
There are also plans to install a bitcoin ATM by the end of April.
Adam Richard, president and co-founder of the Texas Coinitiative, said that Bitcoin still has yet to catch on in the city and the embassy is going to try to help change that.
The embassy is currently looking for sponsors and has several vacancies in its co-working space.
Texas has emerged as one of the more popular states for Bitcoin, although Austin is by far most deserving of the title as he state’s Bitcoin capital. It has been the center for much industry activity, including the ongoing Texas Bitcoin Conference. Republican congressman Steve Stockman has been a vocal advocate of Bitcoin and has drafted bills that would support its use.
