Virtu Financial, Inc, of trading solutions, has announced this week that it has added a new member to its Board, Virginia Gambale, who has become an independent director of the company.
Gambale’s appointment was effective as of the 29th of January. By joining Virtu, the number of directors on the firm’s Board has increased to 12. Out of this number, 9 are independent directors.
Virginia Gambale’s career
With a career spanning more than 25 years, Gambale has held numerous senior and Board positions. Namely, for the past five years, she has been on the Board of First Derivatives. During this time, she has been Board Director, Chair of Nominating & Governance, and Audit Chair.

Throughout her career, Gambale has served on numerous international public and private boards, including JetBlue, Piper Jaffray, Synchronoss Technologies, Motive, Workbrain, and IQ Financial, among others.
Commenting on the appointment, Robert Greifeld, Virtu’s Chairman, said in the statement: “Virginia’s depth and breadth of experience at the intersection of finance and technology will add significant value to our Board of Directors. We look forward to benefiting from her expertise in our industry as well as her leadership and insight.”
According to her LinkedIn, Gambale started off her career in 1994 when she joined Merrill Lynch as the Director of Investment Banking Technology, where she was employed for three years.
Since then, Gambale has also been a Partner at Capital Partners and a General Partner at ABS Ventures. From 1997-1999 she was the Chief Information Officer at Bankers Trust Alex Brown.
In addition to her career qualifications, Gambale holds a Bachelor of Science from the New York Institute of Technology-Old Westbury.
