BNY Mellon (BNY) has been on in recent months, with numerous changes made to its . Now it’s the technology department’s time for a shake-up with the American bank announcing this Monday that has been appointed Chief Technology Officer.
Based in New York, Elias has, according to BNY’s statement, already started work. His role is a new one and will see him helping BNY set its technological agenda and building new platforms.
“Sabet is a talented technologist and brings to the bank a solid track record of building platforms,” said BNY’s Chief Information Officer, . “As we continue to shape our global technology agenda and improve resiliency, we need to add leadership talent with deep experience in technology to take us to the next level.”

Elias joins BNY from the Bank of America where he was Sales and Trading Chief Technology Officer. Joining in 2011, Elias spent close to eight years at the American firm working on the strategy and building of various technological products.
Before leaving to join Citigroup in 2008, Elias was Chief Technology Officer at the now-defunct Lehman Brothers. Starting in 2000, he was responsible for the engineering, support, and build-out of data centers, core infrastructure, networks, servers, storage and platforms that supported the firm’s applications.
BNY’s newest employee didn’t always work in the financial services industry. After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and a master’s degree in information systems from the New Jersey Institute of Technology, Elias worked in AT&T’s Bell Labs – an industrial research and scientific development company now owned by Nokia.
