Alpari’s international brand has announced that it will extend its sponsorship deal with Sergey Karyakin into 2018, ahead of the Candidates Tournament, which is scheduled to commence in Berlin on March 10th. The competition will determine which candidates will qualify for the world championship later in the year.
Karyakin qualified for the Candidates Tournament with a victory in last year’s instalment of the event. Moreover, he showed extremely well competing for the world title, in a hard-fought battle with current champion Magnus Carlsen. That match was only decided when Sergey conceded at the end of a tiebreak.
Alpari initially began its sponsorship of Mr. Karyakin back in 2012, and has . Since then, the chess grandmaster has reached great achievements. He has participated and won various tournaments at the highest level, all over the world. The Russian chess prodigy now aims to claim the world title from Carlsen, a feat that will not be easily achieved.

Karyakin also responded to the announcement, saying: “I’m eternally grateful to Alpari for believing in me and for being the first organisation to provide me with financial support. Thanks to our cooperation, I’ve had the good fortune of training with some of the world’s best coaches, with some outstanding results to show for it, including victories at several ranked tournaments. My continued cooperation with Alpari is now a sign of stability and reliability in my life. We came together with the shared goal of returning the chess crown to Russia and I’m confident that we’ll be basking in the glory of a shared victory very soon.”
Alpari is no stranger to sponsorship deals, as the brokerage has previously engaged with representatives of various sports across a wide geographical sphere. Its most recent sponsorship took place in 2017, when Alpari with the Can-Am X Race, Russia’s competition for the extreme sport of quad-bike (ATV) racing. The company has also had negotiations for unmaterialized sponsorship agreements with major football clubs and basketball teams.
