Nasdaq, Inc. (Nasdaq:NDAQ), the second-largest exchange in the world by market capitalization, behind only the New York Stock Exchange, today announced that industry veteran John Shay will join the group next month as Senior Vice President and Global Head of Fixed Income and Commodities.
With a very detailed background spanning across the financial services industry, Mr. Shay brings over 30 years of experience during which he held international positions at well-known exchanges. John arrives at Nasdaq coming from Virtu Financial where he served most latterly as Senior Vice President for Global Markets, focusing on fixed income, commodities, and currencies.
Earlier in his career, he also held various capacities for over 25 years across ICAP, with a special emphasis on ICAP’s Electronic Broking (IEB) for fixed income and foreign exchange.
In his new role, Mr. Shay will be assuming a leadership role in the development of Nasdaq’s global commodities and fixed-income areas within Nasdaq’s Global Trading and Market Services business. In addition, he will be focused on advancing fixed income, clearing, and broker services activities in the Nordic and Baltic markets, which combined account for approximately 11% of Nasdaq’s Market Services revenue.
Announcing the appointment, Hans-Ole Jochumsen, President of Nasdaq, said: “A major focus for our Global Trading and Market Services business is to pursue opportunities across asset classes to deliver greater value to our clients and the markets. John brings to Nasdaq a wealth of institutional knowledge in financial services, particularly fixed income and clearing. We are fortunate to tap into his expertise to expand our opportunities as he begins his new role.”
Speaking about his appointment, Shay added: “Nasdaq has successfully applied its long legacy of innovation to the fixed income and commodities space and has established itself as a solid industry player. We see great possibilities to expand our product set globally, and I am excited to lead the effort and focus on delivering more value to clients.”
