RavenPack News Analytics, a provider of data research tools to convert unstructured financial data into structured content has announced that Wharton Research Data Services (WRDS) is adding RavenPack to its data offerings. Created by the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business to support its own research in 1993, WRDS has expanded its services to support outside academic institutions, businesses and government institutions.
Along with RavenPack, other data sources of WRDS include Thomson Reuters, the NYSE, S&P Capital IQ and Markit. By including RavenPack, WRDS increases the number of big data sources available to its customers. Many businesses and financial firms are integrating big data computations to analyze potential trends as well as to uncover less obvious inputs that affect their business.
In terms of RavenPack, its solution analyzes streams as well as social media. According to the firm, its technology provides coverage of over 2000 event categories and analytics on more than 175,000 entities.
Commenting on the addition of RavenPack, Robert Zarazowski, Managing Director of WRDS, stated: “WRDS is really pleased to offer RavenPack News Analytics to our academic subscribers. Helping researchers get the key information they need is an essential part of our work in an era of big data, and RavenPack News Analytics will be a terrific addition to our existing datasets.”
Armando Gonzalez, CEO of RavenPack, added: “It’s no secret that news and social media have a profound effect on business and financial markets. Researchers rely on our data to push the boundaries in financial studies. We are excited to partner with WRDS and provide their users with the ability to incorporate our 15 years of analytics data into their models.”
