The Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE) Holdings (NASDAQ: CBOE), a key operator of the US equity options market, has reported its volumes for the month ending July 2015, according to a CBOE statement.
During July 2015, CBOE Holdings revealed a total trading volume for options contracts on Chicago Board Options Exchange, C2 Options Exchange, and futures contracts on CBOE Futures Exchange of 106.5 million, up 7.4% MoM from 99.2 million contracts – over a yearly timeframe, July 2015’s volumes represent a -2.2% YoY decline from 108.9 million in July 2014.
Additionally, total options and futures average daily volume (ADV) at CBOE Holdings during July 2015 yielded 4.8 million contracts, corresponding to an increase of 7.3% MoM from 4.5 million contracts in June 2015 and a decline of -2.2% from 4.9 million in July 2014.
CBOE Volumes
Across its options business, Chicago Board Options Exchange ADV came in at 4.3 million contracts in July 2015, up 7.5% MoM from 4.0 million contracts in June 2015, though down by -4.0% YoY since July 2014. The exchange-wide trading volume totaled 93.9 million contracts in July 2015, jumping 7.1% MoM from 87.7 million contracts in June 2015.
In terms of ADV, index options in July 2015 managed to rise 8.0% MoM from June 2015, while ADV in exchange-traded product (ETP) options and equity options also moved higher by 3.0% MoM from June 2014.
C2 Option Exchange
Moreover, C2 Option Exchange’s June 2015 trading volume totaled 7.6 million contracts, up 10.1% MoM from 6.9 million contracts in June 2015 and a rise of 10.0% YoY from July 2014. Meanwhile, ADV was reported at 343,996 contracts in July 2015, a 10.0% MoM increase from 312,858 contracts in June 2015 and a 10% boost YoY from July 2014.
VIX Futures
Finally, CBOE Futures Exchange released a July 2015 ADV in VIX futures of 227,970 contracts good for an 8.1% rise from 210,963 contracts in June 2015 and 16.0% uptick YoY from July 2014. Additionally, total volume in VIX futures for July 2015 was 5.0 million contracts, growing 8.7% MoM from 4.6 million contracts in June 2015 and 16.0% from July 2014.
