The Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE) Holdings (NASDAQ: CBOE), the paramount operator of the US equity options market, has reported its June 2015 volumes, according to a CBOE statement.
For the month ending June 2015, CBOE Holdings reported a total trading volume for options contracts on Chicago Board Options Exchange, C2 Options Exchange, and futures contracts on CBOE Futures Exchange of 99.2 million, – over a yearly timeframe, June 2015’s volumes represent a -1% YoY decline from June 2014.
Additionally, total options and futures average daily volume (ADV) at CBOE Holdings during June 2015 yielded 4.5 million contracts, corresponding to an increase of 4.7% MoM from 4.3 million contracts in May 2015 and a decline of -5.0% from June 2014.
CBOE Volumes
Across its options business, Chicago Board Options Exchange ADV came in at 4.0 million contracts in June 2015, up 5.3% MoM from 3.8 million contracts in May 2015 and down -7.0% YoY from June 2014. The exchange-wide trading volume totaled 87.7 million contracts in June 2015, jumping 16.4% MoM from 75.3 million contracts in May 2015.
In terms of ADV, index options in June 2015 managed to rise 14.0% MoM from May 2015, while ADV in exchange-traded product (ETP) options and equity options declined by -7.0% YoY from June 2014.
C2 Option Exchange
Moreover, C2 Option Exchange’s June 2015 trading volume totaled 6.9 million contracts, up 6.0% MoM from May 2015 and a rise of 10.0% YoY from June 2014. Meanwhile, ADV was reported at 312,858 contracts in June 2015, a -3.0% MoM decrease from May 2015 and a 5% increase YoY from June 2014.
VIX Futures
Finally, CBOE Futures Exchange released a June 2015 ADV in VIX futures of 210,963 contracts good for a 21.0% rise from 174,923 contracts in May 2015 and 21.0% surge YoY from June 2014. Additionally, total volume in VIX futures for June 2015 was 4.6 million contracts, growing 33% MoM from May 2015 and 27.0% from June 2014.
