Two ATMs operated by Mr. Bitcoin in Amsterdam were discovered to have been stolen after overnight break-ins.
Mr. Bitcoin operates multiple bitcoin ATMs throughout Europe, including three in the Netherlands, two of which had been in Amsterdam.
The affected locations were Media Markt, a consumer electronics store, and Cafe Kobalt. General Bytes and BitAccess manufactured the machines.
It is difficult to fathom what the thieves anticipated in gaining with their haul–one of the machines was reportedly quite large and not easy to move. The machines couldn’t have held more than a few hundred euros; the thieves may or may not have been aware that there were no bitcoins in the machines.
It is also highly unlikely that the ATMs can be successfully relaunched for service elsewhere.
