When a representative from TigerDirect hosted a last month, among repeated comments from participants was that they wished Newegg would also begin to accept bitcoins for payments. Apparently Newegg was listening, as the online electronics retailer has become the latest firm to begin through a partnership with BitPay.
One of the leading sellers of high end video cards used for cryptocurrency mining, especially for script based coins, Newegg has long topped firms bitcoin users have wanted to accept the digital currency. Having a large customer base of bitcoin users, Newegg’s absence of accepting them had been viewed curiously.
Announcing the news in a joint statement between Newegg and BitPay, Soren Mills, Chief Marketing Officer for Newegg North America alluded to their customers interest in bitcoins saying “Newegg’s customers are among some of the earliest bitcoin miners and are enthusiastic proponents of the crypto-currency. Adopting bitcoin as a payment method is another way we’re responding to our customers’ diverse needs. Working with BitPay to implement a bitcoin payment option at Newegg was a seamless process and our partnership gives us the capabilities we require for high-volume e-commerce.”
Adding comment, Tony Gallippi, BitPay’s Co-founder and Executive Chairman stated that “Our mission is to make bitcoin every merchant’s favorite form of payment. Forward-thinking merchants like Newegg allow bitcoin enthusiasts from around the world to shop with ease. Newegg has been the most requested retailer from the bitcoin community and our collaboration will serve this pent-up demand”.
Similar to other online retailers, paying with bitcoins is integrated with Newegg’s payment options, allowing users to simply click on “Pay with Bitcoin” when concluding their purchases.
