Shopify has officially added support for Bitcoin. Over 75,000 merchants who use Shopify are now able to accept Bitcoin through add-ons provided by .
Shopify has had unofficial Bitcoin processing support through add-ons from Bitcoin processor , and earlier this month added official support through a partnership with BitPay. Initially, the add-ons were made available to select beta testers, and were pulled rather quickly from their app store due to technical issues.
Now out of beta testing, the add-ons are available to all Shopify merchants, and are officially backed by Shopify.
“We’ve had a lot of demand from our merchants to incorporate support for Bitcoin and we’re happy that we can make this integration available prior to this year’s holiday shopping season,” Shopify added in their announcement for the new add-ons.
The addition of Bitcoin support comes at a good time. With more global shoppers utilizing the cryptocurrency, and with shopping days like and even , Ecommerce sales are expected to be higher than ever this holiday season.
